Alpine Dairy & Cheese Farm Visit
The crisp mountain air filled my lungs as I gazed upon the picture-perfect scene: a quaint wooden chalet nestled amidst lush green meadows, with snow-capped peaks glistening in the distance. This wasn’t a dream; it was the start of my incredible day at a traditional alpine dairy & cheesemaking farm nestled in the mountains surrounding Interlaken, Switzerland. It took me and my fellow cheeselovers only a 30 minute hike to reach this incredible and remote alpine farm of true Swiss bliss.
From Milk to Magic: The Cheesemaking Workshop
Once having arrived the adventure began with a cheesemaking workshop. Under the watchful eye of a friendly local cheesemaker, we were guided through the fascinating process of transforming fresh mountain milk into creamy cheese. We learned about the importance of local ingredients for Swiss mountain cheese, the delicate balance of bacteria cultures, and the art of curdling and pressing. The best part? Getting to put our newfound knowledge to the test by making our own small cheese rounds called Mutschli. The sense of accomplishment, coupled with the anticipation of tasting our creations later, was truly special. Plus it made for the ultimate Swiss souvenir to take home.
A Milky Frothy Footbath Experience
After the workshop, our senses were further delighted with a unique rejuvenating footbath experience. We soaked our tired feet in a warm mixture of milk whey, a leftover product from the cheesemaking process, and fresh alpine herbs. Like Cleopatra already knew, this mineral and vitamin potent concoction is very healthy for the skin. The warmth was incredibly soothing, and the natural ingredients left our feet feeling soft and pampered – a perfect reward after exploring the farm. The incredible views and enjoyment of a drink and some local cheese made it all the better.
Meeting the Stars of the Show: A Visit to the Cow Stable
Speaking of exploration, a visit to the cow stable was next. We came face-to-face with the happy cows, the true stars of the show. Their gentle nature and their melodic clanging of bells created a sense of tranquility that only being surrounded by nature can provide. Witnessing these well-cared-for animals firsthand instilled a deep appreciation for the source of the delicious cheese we were about to enjoy. It really makes one appreciate the beauty of Swiss Alpine mountain cheese.
A Symphony of Flavors: The Cheese Tasting
But the highlight of the day was undoubtedly the cheese tasting. We gathered around a rustic wooden table, the aroma of various cheeses whetting our appetites. We sampled a delectable array of alpine cheeses, each with its own distinct flavor and texture. From the mild and creamy to the sharp and tangy, each bite was a revelation, showcasing the magic that happens when fresh mountain milk meets traditional cheesemaking techniques.
The Enchantment of a Swiss Alpine Cheesemaking Farm
As I left the cheesemaking farm, the warmth of the afternoon sun on my skin and the taste of handcrafted cheese lingering on my tongue, I carried a newfound appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. The breathtaking scenery of the Swiss Alps, the charm of the traditional farm, and the joy of creating and savoring cheese – it was a day that perfectly captured the essence of alpine life. Matter of fact was I was craving a Swiss cheese fondue made by that natural and magical Alpine cheese so I headed straight to the Fondue Villa & Garden to take it cheesy a tiny bit more…..
