That the adventure ducksters like to swim is more than clear. Any lake they set their eyes on requires at least a little dip and more often than not an extensive swimming & floating session. With the latter in mind the adventurers went on a mission to visit the fabled Bachalpsee high above Grindelwald near the First mountain. What they found was better than they had ever dreamed off: crystal clear waters with a fantastic snowcapped mountain backdrop.
Going to Bachalpsee high above Grindelwald
The high alpine lake Bachalpsee has one of these epic locations with a snowcapped mountain backdrop formed by the Eiger, Schreckhorn, Wetterhorn and Finsteraarhorn. All are famous 4 thousanders that draw in mountaineers from around the world to scale them and tourists to gaze at them.
From Grindelwald the ducksters took the First cable car up to the last station with the same name passing the middle station of Bort and Schreckfeld in between. Once they arrived at First at 2184m above sea level the ducksters firstly had a quick look at the First cliff walk before starting the 45 minute hike to the lake they wanted to go swimming in.
Swimming in Bachalpsee
The hike to Bachalpsee is an undulating trail that is well sign-posted from First cable car station. In about 45 minutes the adventurous rubber ducksters reached the lake and immediately got excited to go swimming in that gorgeous setting.
Brave humans go swimming in Bachalpsee regularly too but indeed it is quite cold. So worth it though, as the pics of our rubber duckling adventure swimmers show you below.
Cappie and super decided to hike a bit further in the direction of the Faulhorn in order to get a bird’s eye view (duck’s eye view really) of the lake from a higher vantage point. In 10 minutes they climbed up to a nice spot from where they had the stunning view seen below.
