Lake Thun in Interlaken, Switzerland transforms into a canvas of golden hues and silhouettes as the day comes to a close. The Experience
Beginning at the Neuhaus public beach, the Sunset SUP & SIP adventure welcomes groups of up to ten participants for an evening of paddling, wine sipping and Swiss cheese tasting set against the backdrop of Switzerland’s most stunning mountainscapes. As the group gathers on the shores of Lake Thun, the majestic silhouettes of Niesen and Stockhorn mountains provide an awe-inspiring backdrop, their peaks catching the last rays of daylight which immediately sets the tone for a magical evening.
The experience begins in the early evening at 8pm when the sun is still high enough to illuminate the crystal-clear waters of Lake Thun. Participants are equipped with high-quality paddle boards, each featuring integrated LED lighting systems. These waterproof lights are designed to shine downward, creating a luminous glow beneath each board that becomes increasingly dramatic as darkness falls.
The Paddle Journey into the setting sun
After a short SUP instruction, as the group paddles away from the shores of Neuhaus, the Kieferinseli island comes into view, its distinctive silhouette of trees standing proud against the changing sky. The guides lead paddlers through calm waters, allowing them to soak in the panoramic views of the surrounding Alps while perfecting their paddle techniques.
The journey is timed perfectly to witness the transformation of the sky as the sun begins its descent behind the Niesen mountain—often referred to as the “Swiss Pyramid” due to its distinctive triangular shape. The mountain’s outline creates a dramatic contrast against the evening sky, which gradually shifts from blue to a mesmerizing palette of oranges, pinks, and purples.
The Secret Picnic Spot: Wine Sipping & Cheese Tasting
Halfway through the journey, the group reaches a secluded shoreline spot—a hidden gem known only to locals and tour guides. Here, participants take a well-deserved break from paddling to indulge in the “SIP” portion of the experience. A carefully curated selection of Swiss wines awaits, paired expertly with regional cheeses from the Bernese Oberland.
The picnic spot offers unparalleled views of the sunset, with the mountains creating a natural amphitheater for nature’s light show. As participants sip fine Swiss wines and savor the rich flavors of local cheeses, the sun casts its final golden rays across the lake, creating a magical atmosphere of tranquility and awe.
The Illuminated Return
As night falls across Lake Thun, the journey back to Neuhaus transforms into the most enchanting part of the experience. Participants activate their paddle boards’ LED lights, creating a flotilla of glowing vessels that seem to hover just above the dark waters. The boards illuminate in vibrant colors of yellow, blue, red, green, and white, casting ethereal circles of light that penetrate the depths below. The effect is nothing short of magical—a constellation of moving lights against the backdrop of the now-darkened mountains.

Fitness Level & age requirement: The activity is suitable for anyone with basic fitness levels. No prior paddle boarding experience is required. Anyone aged 16 and above can participate.
