Sunset SUP & Sipping
A small group of nine adventurers gathered at the Neuhaus boat launch, the iconic silhouette of the Swiss Alps painting a picturesque welcome against the late afternoon sun. A buzz of anticipation filled the air as we prepped our paddleboards – not just any paddleboards, but sleek vessels equipped with vibrant LED lights ready to illuminate the twilight waters around and underneath.
Golden Hour on Lake Thun
The crisp air, calm water, and slow descending sun, painting the sky in hues of soft gold and warm orange. The iconic Niesen mountain – also known as the Swiss Pyramid due to its distinctive triangular shape – and the rugged outline of the Stockhorn stood proudly in the distance, promising a spectacular backdrop for the evening.
After a short instruction all participants boarded their comfortable paddle boards and gently pushed off from the shore, the rhythmic dipping of paddles the only sound breaking the peaceful ambiance. The initial strokes felt effortless, the boards gliding smoothly across the calm evening water. As they ventured further, the sun dipped lower, casting long shadows and bathing everything in a magical golden light.
Wine Sipping & Cheese Tasting
Just as dusk began to settle, their guide led them to a secluded spot on the shoreline – a hidden gem with arguably the best sunset views over the Niesen, Stockhorn and a plethora of other Swiss Alpine mountains. Here, a delightful picnic awaited them.
Here, participants take a well-deserved break from paddling to indulge in the “SIP” portion of the experience. A carefully curated selection of Swiss wines awaits, paired expertly with regional cheeses from the Bernese Oberland.
The picnic spot offers unparalleled views of the sunset, with the mountains creating a natural amphitheater for nature’s light show. As participants sip fine Swiss wines and savor the rich flavors of local cheeses, the sun casts its final golden rays across the lake, creating a magical atmosphere of tranquility and awe.
The sky ablaze with fiery reds and deep oranges, the silhouettes of the mountains a stark contrast against the vibrant Alpine canvas.
As the last sliver of sun disappeared below the horizon, darkness crept in, but our adventure was far from over. This was when our LED-equipped paddleboards truly came to life. With a flick of a switch, vibrant beams of yellow, blue, red, green, and white illuminated the water beneath us.
Paddling back towards Neuhaus in the darkness was a completely different experience. The mountains loomed as dark giants against the starlit sky, and the only light sources were our glowing boards, creating an ethereal atmosphere. We could see the clear water illuminated beneath us, occasionally catching glimpses of fish darting by.
The Sunset SUP & SIP experience on Lake Thun is more than just a paddleboarding excursion; it is a sensory journey.
