The annual dip, duck & dive New Year’s winter swim traditionally took place at 12pm noon on the 1st of January at the Neuhaus & Kifferinseli bathing area in Interlaken. Around 50 people participated in this tradional refreshing start of the new year which got livened up by rubber ducks, warm up excercises, unexpected dance moves and a lot of hot soup and champagne afterwards.
The Dip, Duck & Dive event in Interlaken is a unique and invigorating way to celebrate the New Year, attracting locals and visitors alike for a refreshing plunge into the icy waters of Lake Thun. This annual tradition, held every January 1st at noon, combines the thrill of cold water swimming with a festive atmosphere, making it a memorable start to the year.
The Dip, Duck & Dive Tradition
The concept behind Dip, Duck & Dive is simple yet engaging. Participants gather at the shores of Lake Thun, armed with their favorite rubber ducks, ready to take on the cold water. The experience unfolds in three stages:
- Dip: Participants cautiously enter the frigid lake.
- Duck: A realization hits—it’s freezing! Many instinctively duck back out.
- Dive: With a burst of courage, swimmers fully commit and dive in.
This playful approach not only lightens the mood but also encourages camaraderie among participants, as they share laughs and cheers while braving the cold together[1][4].
